Kyla Herbert ~ 1st Violin

Kyla Herbert has been playing the violin for the past 18 years and is currently in her third year as an elementary orchestra teacher in the Hazelwood School District. She holds a Bachelor of Music Education from Southern Illinois University Edwardsville, and studied violin there for 4 1/2 years with Dr. Lenora Marya-Anop of The LeClaire Trio. She has played violin and viola in various chamber ensembles through the years and is currently the first violinist of the Gateway String Quartet.

 

Beth Schmiedeke ~ 2nd Violin

Beth Schmiedeke is in her 5th year of teaching Elementary, Middle, and High School in the Hazelwood School District. She received a Master's in Music Education from the University of Missouri St. Louis. Beth holds the position of Vice President of Middle School Orchestras through the St. Louis Suburban Music Educators Association. She is a member of HNEA, MENC, and ASTA. Beth plays throughout the St. Louis area in various ensembles and is currently the second violinist of the Gateway String Quartet.

 

 


 

Samantha Foster ~ Viola

Samantha Foster has been playing cello for the past 16 years. In 2000, Samantha founded the Gateway String Quartet. Mrs. Foster completed her B.M.Ed. at Webster University in 2002. Samantha is currently an elementary orchestra teacher in the Hazelwood School District. Mrs. Foster has studied cello with Alvin McCall and Bob Silverman of the St. Louis Symphony. Recently, Mrs. Foster took over the viola position in the Gateway String Quartet. Although she enjoys playing viola, Mrs. Foster is a cellist by nature. Samantha currently resides in Alton, Illinois and handles all affairs for the Gateway String Quartet.

 


 

Ed Sandheinrich ~ Cello

Ed Sandheinrich received his B.A. in Music from Webster University in May 2003. He is now a beginning orchestra teacher at Conway and Spoede Schools in the Ladue School District. In addition to teacher, Ed also teaches cello privately. Ed has been a member of the Webster Symphony since 1999 and also plays with the Jacksonville Illinois Symphony. Besides music, Ed also enjoys cycling and hockey.
